FDP Cookbook : Side Dishes : Shoe's Biscuits
(submitted by shoebox22 )

1/2 cup Crisco shortening or real butter
2 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
3 heaping teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk

Preheat oven to 450. (425 if using butter) Heat pan(s) in oven.

Sift dry ingredients together in large bowl. Cut in shortening with pastry cutter until crumbly. Stir in milk until dough leaves sides of bowl and is sticky.

Turn out on floured surface and knead about 10 times. Don't over do it as you want the biscuits to be flaky. Roll or pat out to 1/2 inch thick and cut with floured cutter or small drinking glass.

Remove pan from oven and immediately grease with oil. Place biscuits in pan and flip each as you place them to ensure tops have been lightly coated. (To help them rise, some Grandmas say to let them barely touch!)

Bake until golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.

You can use Pam cooking spray instead of oil for a lighter texture.
