Here is a closeup of a young feral hog I photographed while on maneuvers in Germany. He is just a little shaver, but Mom's was always close by. His upturned tusks are sheathed somewhat behind his lips, but they are visible. I took this picture from inside a HMMWV (Humvee). It is common to encounter them, and troops are cautioned to steer clear and not provoke them. The wild feral hogs run wild all over Germany. The German hunters keep them under control in most areas. However, hunting is not allowed on the military training areas (at least not by the troops) so sometimes we occupy points that are thick with them.
