WireDog's photos: Art: New Orleans, Eve of Battle

That is Andrew Jackson and Jean Lafitte having cocktails on the balcony. The local militiaman is wearing a Napoleonic ere hat and is carrying a 1777 Charleville musket. The French items would be common in New Orleans during that time. The ship is an anonymous Sloop of War belonging to Jean Lafitte. We know little about his various ships (he tended to go through them rapidly), but we do know his cannoneers were good shots. Lafitte's artillerymen helped turn the battle. I'm from New Orleans and always imagined those guys walking the same cobblestones I was walking.
