It's not intended to be a controller for anything.

Use it as normal (as effects), if you use it at all.

Right, the Katana 50 is flat out amazing, considering the price.

Rev--I am using the ME80 into my Super Reverb but this Katana is really great and easy to navigate---well sort of--
where do you live--I will hire you to teach me about the boss stuff---I am not too good at learning from videos but hands on I can do well.

I'm in the middle of nowhere in Idaho, and can't travel, so....

The thing is to just experiment with the software.

You're not going to screw anything up. You can't.

If you manage to wreck things, somehow, you factory reset the unit, start over!

How well does this amp accept pedals? Gain? Delay? Compressor?

It should do a fine job (if I needed another amp, I'd have two already) - Roland is always spot on for that.

Can't really imagine why you'd need external effects with this amp platform...

w

Versatility for playing live?

I can see that, Rocky. Sometimes your live playing situation is fluid and dynamic. I know in our church it's Kempler modelers and a pedal board for effects. They have to be ready for direction changes.

I stopped by GC today to check out the Katana. Surprisingly, they had a demo that I could play for about an hour. I only played with the knobs and didn't get into the presets. In short, it was good, especially for $200, but I wasn't ga-ga.

The crunch channel was really nice, and the delay and reverb were good. I spent a lot of time on the clean channel. While it was fairly good, it would never be mistaken for a tube amp.

I went there with every intention of walking out with one, but it was basically comparable to my Vox AD30VT, which to me sounds more tube-like. If I didn't have the Vox, or if it ever fails, I could see myself picking up a Katana for home use.

There aren't any presets, that's one of the cool things about the Katana. No stupid menus and 100 useless presets.

A Boss rep mentioned quite a while back, that to get the best tube-like response from the Katana's speaker/amp interaction design, one might want to initially set the Power Level to the room or location/situation, run the master very high, set the channel gain to taste and then use the channel volume control to actually adjust volume.

Mike

That was my experience too. On the clean channel, I had the Master and Gain cranked and used the Volume to taste. There was no breakup with the Gain dimed.

Well, I was getting all excited until I read Lefty's posts. ;)
But then again, I've heard willie's (ex) Blues Cube in person, and in a band (jam) situation, it sounded fantastic! Aren't they almost the same amp?
