I've only had two new ones. I suppose the one I built counts since the plastics had the plastic on them. I take the plastic off after the first playing.

I've never owned a new Strat so I've never had to face this problem. My instincts would be to remove it ASAP.

First thing. I also pull the pickguard when taking the stock strings off so I can loosen the nuts holding the pots and get the plastic out from under the nuts, washers and knobs.<br /> <br /> Nothing feels worse than turning a pot rubbing plastic film. Ick!

This past Sunday we celebrated my birthday and the family gave me a guitar. I unwrapped it, tuned and played it, and promptly took the film off the pickguard. :-P

Leave it on too long and it will be very difficult to remove cleanly.

WhAt macatt said; I bought a 10 yr old strat with the plastic still on. It came off ok, but left behind some residue.
