Just heard an interviewee state: 'As people fled into the secure confines of the MGM Grand Casino they were amazed to see business as usual: people at their slot machines, tables, gaming devices, playing Keno, as if nothing happened.'
Vegas.

So much noise, so little factual info. Regardless, what a horrible thing.

"Then you're more understanding than I am."

I seriously doubt that. It's just that the pieces of the story we've heard so far just don't fit together.

I just don't want to try to make sense of this until I hear whatever the authorities are willing to feed us.

"It's just that the pieces of the story we've heard so far just don't fit together."

On one hand we have a storyline that his father was a bonafide psycho. Then there is his brother who is baffled because he knew of no history that his brother had with firearms, let alone the scale used for this massacre.

I wonder what the time frame was between his suicide and SWAT knocking the door down.

I really don't care what else they have to say about that guy. It doesn't matter to me why he did it, his thoughts behind it, what brought him to that point, whether his family had any inclination that he would do something like that, etc. The guy was a piece of garbage.

^^ Mike -- I don't disagree with anything you've said, but writing this guy off as a psycho is just too easy. I want the news media to do their jobs for a change and start digging and figure out how and why this happened.

This guy was not a grocery store nutjob. He didn't just wake up a few days ago and decide to murder as many people as he possibly could. This took some serious premeditation and planning and someone in his life could have seen it coming.

If we really want to stop this madness, we need to know all the facts to understand why this guy thought this was a good option.

I agree with NoSoapRadio.

That being said, what else can we do that this point other than offer our thoughts and prayers to all those people hurt by this terrible act?

NSR: totally agree the media needs to do their job, but there’s no explanation or back story that would change my opinion.

The fact that the guy isn’t a “grocery store nut job” is exactly what makes him a worse individual to me. This wasn’t someone who “snapped” and killed someone, he formulated a plan and he carried it out. And it was a demented plan.

I did think of you this morning, though, when the gentleman on the local news referred to automatic weapons as being an “indiscriminate killer”; I thought to myself, wouldn’t the dude spraying a crowd with it be the “indiscriminate killer”? I bet NSR would actually agree with me on that.

Unless you have known someone who is psychotic it is truly difficult to understand how they can totally lose touch with what is real and what is not. When you are a rational thinker it just is extremely difficult to understand those who are not.

Prayers for all those affected by this senseless act.

So ISIS is claiming responsibility according to one account I read in a News Week online article. This guy's girlfriend is from Indonesia where over 17% of the worlds Muslims live. Could be fake news I don't know but a major news source reported it.

Two news sources, one network exec from (CBS?) and one on air reporter (CNN)are quoted as downplaying the carnage as country music fans belong to a certain conservative political party.

Geeze! People are dead. Others, like my boss and her family are certainly scared for life while trying to have a bit of fun at a musical event.

This country is in real trouble IMO. Guns, no guns, left or right, fake news, real news, gay straight, black or white. How did all this begin? I fear it will never end.

"A Major source" means nothing these days. In the rush to grab the viewer's/reader's attention they say just about anything.

Swinging The Lead

Very sad news.

Speculation as to his motivation is not going to help at this point.

It is easy enough to get hold of the type of weapon he used; and easy enough to take it up to a hotel room. That part I don't find particularly important.

What I would say, is that it is impossible to prevent determined people carrying out these kind of atrocities given the easy access to the means, and the important thing is for people to remember, as difficult as it may be, that this is still very unlikely. We need to keep going out to concerts, keep visiting attractions.

Otherwise, they do win.

"NSR: totally agree the media needs to do their job, but there’s no explanation or back story that would change my opinion."

Again, I don't disagree. I just don't want to accept LE's statement that this is a "lone wolf" incident without some substantiation.

If this guy really had automatic rifles (which I doubt) the ATF should be able to tell us right away if he went through the process. If they were NFA rifles, the question becomes, how does a guy who, by reports, has a gambling problem, is going through a divorce, and lives with and supports a woman who is married to someone else and evidently travels around the world, afford them? This guy is a retired accountant -- where is his money coming from?

Also from reports, he installed a surveillance system within the hotel presumably to warn him when the cops were coming -- but then offed himself before the cops were able to enter the room. What would be the point?

I am willing to accept that every bit of information that has been reported by the media so far has been wrong -- and won't be even a little surprised. But I really don't want the facts in this one to be swept under the carpet like all of the other recent shootings.

NSR, a lot of things we're hearing so far don't completely add up. One thing for sure, we will never get the full truth of this incident just as we never have for any major event.
