Coca-Cola breaks 130-year-old tradition with first alcoholic drink

With its iconic red label and secret recipe, itâs been one of the worldâs most famous soft drinks for more than a century. Now, however, Coca-Cola is on the brink of a new chapter â with plans to launch its first alcoholic drink in Japan.

Well rum and coke has always been popular so this appears to be a natural.

Note in Japan alcoholic beverages are to be found everywhere in vending machines. They don't have a problem with underage kids buying it either because that would be illegal.

I stuck my Yen in several of those machines when I was in Japan.

So Coca-Cola is going to do Rum instead of bringing back the cocaine?

"Alcopop" - what a terrible idea. Anyone remember bubble gum cigarettes?

I loved getting an Asahi Super Dry out of a vending machine in Japan, then drinking it on the street and not worrying about the law coming down on me.

I think I remember seeing whiskey and cola of some kind too, but I didnât try it.

Japan is freakin awesome. Seriously.
