Just a note if you would like to acquire a surplus 1911 from the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

The CMP is the only outfit authorized by Congress to market surplus US military weapons.

Don't know the price, and I'd expect several grades are to be offered. I guess these will not be tack drivers but can be improved I'm sure. I plan to get one if prices are reasonable.

The CMP is a good outfit and will take care of you if you have a problem. I have two Garands and a 1903A3 from them. Found a crack in the handguard of the 03A3 and they sent me a NOS one, no problem.

There are some requirements you have to meet, outlined at the CMP site.

I'm not interested, but it seems to me they should have inventoried the pistols first, so they could describe the number, condition, and prices of the 8,000 or so they have received.

But I guess some people are so jacked up that they will sign up / apply for / get in line for stuff sight unseen.

I just don't get it.

They are about to inventory them. Then they will inspect, repair, and grade them. Then publish this info and prices. This is just an early heads up.

If interested, you can sign up for email notifications at appropriate times.

The rev is certainly correct. I waited 2 days to Fedex an application in for a M1 carbine. Too late, they're all gone.

But the application acceptance date will be 90 days after release of the application packet, so you should have time.
