I need a gig bag that is light and thin but has a front pocket big enough to take a music book (12" long by 8" wide) and perhaps a small toolkit (2" deep). I'm thinking of the Mono Guitar Sleeve but I'm not sure about the front pocket size and no local store has one in stock to see it in person.

Does anyone have one that they can measure the internal dimensions of the big pocket?

Many many thanks!

Howdy DrKev

The pocket is an odd shape. I'll bet they can send you the specs if you ask 'em. Their customer support email is

support@monocreators.com

This gator has two two pockets, and looks like it would fit the bill.

Thanks Peegoo.

De Ville, I need something lightweight that goes on my back for frequent use (16 trips per week) on public transport. That Gotor, and other semi-rigid cases are too bulky for a crowded paris metro. Even the semi-rigid gig bags are more than I want. The Mono Sleeve looks like the best bet, IF the pocket is big enough.

Seems the shortest dimension is 10" x 12" and that's big enough! Ordered!

Are you hauling a Fender guitar or other straight headstock guitar? If so, the MF/GC Musician's Gear gig bag is pretty good and really affordable (I have several).

These are thin and light in weight but semi-rigid with internal high-density foam panels that protect the guitar from bumps. I would not check a guitar onto a plane in this bag, but for carrying on your shoulder and in public transit, these are very hard to beat. I measured one:

The large top-zip pocket is 10" W x 12" L x about 1.75" thick.

The large front-zip flat pocket is flat, 10" W x 11.5" L.

The small front-zip small (strings/picks) flat pocket is flat, 6" x 7".
Hmmm. I just went to the MF and GC Websites and it appears they no longer stock this bag!

There has to be another vendor that sells these because I have a few that are perfectly identical to the MF bag that were issued with Fender guitars that have the Fender logo on them.

Call Mono, 415.329.3633.
I have found them very helpful on the phone.
The bags are not cheap, I found mine used.
I trust my Alembic bass in it, so long as I am the only one to touch it.
Email for questions.
support@monocreators.com

No online retailers carry this anymore, apparently. This was a GREAT bag. MF used to blow these out for $15 every so often.

But fleaBay sellers have 'em new and used. Search on 'Fender deluxe gig bag'.

Here's one example (below).

Remember that buying used means you may encounter issues with 'em. These have Nylon coil zippers that work great even with years of use, but they don't stand up well to ABuse.

Took a quick scan of Sweetwater's offerings and the most promising bag I saw was the "ESP Deluxe Guitar Gig Bag." Just scaling off the photo, the larger pocket looks to be around 13"x9". Not sure if it's the right shape for your guitar.

No dimensions or weight given, but one of the reviewers complains about thin padding, which in your case is a plus.

Perhaps you could contact the manufacturer at espguitars.com for more specifics.

BTW, at 4.4 lbs, the Mono sleeve is not exactly a lightweight.

The Mono Sleeve arrived this morning. VERY IMPRESSIVE!

It's not small, 2" longer than my previous gig bag (and my guitar has a short body and headstock so there is a full 4" spare space up top). The guitar is a snug fit, nestles in there like a firm sandwich. For it's weight it feels really solid and this is best protection I have ever seen in a gig bag. It's BEAUTIFULLY made, the stitching is perfect!

It weighs just under 4.2 lbs, but that's barely a pound heavier than my previous gig bag, and lighter than the similarly priced Gator Transit series semi-rigid gig bag. The Sleeve manages to feel very light becasue it's so darn comfortable to wear!

And the pocket takes a light A4 size ring folder perfectly with plenty of depth for a tool kit and strap etc. It'll also take an 11" laptop, a 13" laptop is just a little too big.

I'm a happy boy! If this last as long as the quality suggests it will, this will be a money saver in the long run and you all need to run out and buy one. Thanks everyone!
