I'm not a guitarist . . .

I was tempted to respond during the recent discussion of the pending demise of GC about how far our local (Bakersfield CA) Guitar Center has declined - but it didn't seem worth piling on.

Lately, I've been thinking about buying a chorus pedal and the TC Electronic Corona seems highly recommended. I found a Corona listed in the local GC's used gear inventory for $89.99 and stopped by last night for a look. Except for some Velcro goo residue the pedal looked and functioned great. I texted a buddy regarding the price - he sent me a link to Reverb listings and suggested I offer $80. The sales kid who was helping me passed me up the chain to someone who had the stroke to make a deal and, after several minutes, returned and said they would go $70 because it had been on the floor for over 90 days! I joked that I had come in to twist their arm for $10, and they twisted mine and countered with an additional $10 below my offer! My kind of deal!

Thanks, Guitar Center, from a long time customer!

I was in our local Guitar Center yesterday and was disappointed to see it is barely a shell of what it once was (hadn't been in the place for a couple of years). I fear they won't last much longer.

Capnhiho, thanks for the good news. Good to hear about an FDP sponsor and a brick-and-mortar entity. And one that sells guitars.

This store definitely isn’t anything like it used to be: inventory is probably less than 50% of what it was just a couple of years ago. I only recognize one guy with any tenure - and he wasn’t working that day. I’ve been in cleaner pawnshops!

Sad to see what GC has descended to. I just thought I should give them some recognition for making a great deal.

capnhiho...

echo of our local Medford Oregon GC.

I know only one person who is still working there.. he has been there for 3 of the 21 years I have been going in there.

Inventory at 35%... dingy, cold, noisy heavy metal whanging through the sound system.

Acoustic room virtually empty and cold.

More cheap guitars, fewer midpriced to high price guitars.

Used guitars grossly overpriced.

Used car salesmen in training typifies the new staff.

Grim.
Wow nice deal and nice story. Guess we are lucky in that all the Guitar Centers I have been to in the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area have been nice

Has anyone else here opened this thread thinking it is about Chris Greene? (I’ve done it two or three times so far. Apparently, I have some mild dyslexia... and short-term memory loss.)
