My kitchen black granite countertop developed white streaks and dull spots.<br /> <br /> I did a bit of research and found it's natural in 10 year old countertops and they need to be periodically refinished.<br /> <br /> Then I recalled I bought the StewMac 200-4000 grit fret erasers that I use each time I change strings to polish the frets.<br /> <br /> And I thought...hmmm...works on steel..why not stone?<br /> <br /> Sure enough I took the erasers to the granite countertop and to my amazement with very little rubbing I found the fret polishers shined up granite countertops and the white streaks like it never happened.<br /> <br />

I only started having unexpected Epifannys in the last five years. ... guess its because I'm just getting older. The worst is after Taco Bell.

I use my granite countertop as a surface plate. Dang this thing is flat!

I used to work for a place that built driller router machines on huge granite tables and yes they are pretty flat.

Had a chance to pick up a 24" x 36" granite surface plate from a local machine shop that was going out of business a few years ago. It's inspection grade so it's "only" guaranteed to be flat within .0001"<br /> <br /> Anyone who places a coke can or a coffee mug on that thing is met with a stern reprimand.

I gave up on epiphanies ever since they started making them in China.

You could probably bribe therealfrogman to put it in his post.
