After watching the Jaco Pastorious documentary this weekend, its time to go the fretless route. <br /> <br /> A Fender Custom Shop Jaco is well out of reach, and I had thought about the Squire Vintage Modified Jazz bass, but found out about these. <br /> <br /> Hardware is by Wilkinson, so there's decent quality there. <br /> <br /> They are going for about $25-$450, so thought that's an affordable way to get into this. <br /> <br /> <br />

Heck yeah. The headstock looks identical to the original/early G&L basses.<br /> <br /> That sounds pretty dang good. The notes bloom like they're supposed to.<br /> <br /> Affordable to be sure!

I've got a Vintage Icon Strat. Its pretty good. I've never gigged it, but I would not have a problem with that.

Not sure I'd spend more than the Squier in that range to be honest.<br /> <br /> If you wanted specific hardware or it was somehow lacking (and they're solid instruments)...you could get those parts and still likely come out ahead.
