An earlier thread got me wondering how difficult it would be to change magnets on a pickup out. (Seems people have done so.)

Where would you procure t magnets anyway?

Ebay has plenty of them 4 sale. You can't swap alnico poles in a vintage design pickup, tho you can in plastic bobbin pickups. Press and pull out with a pair of pliers, press new in making sure they are oriented correctly. With humbuckers, which i assume is more likely what u r asking about, unwrap tape, loosen the 4 small screws holding the coil on at the bottom, push the old mag out and insert new, again making sure orientation is the same. Quite easy actually.

I’ve done quite a few humbuckers. It works out well.

Usually on ceramics, yes.

But I did do two StewMac Golden Age humbuckers. They were A5 and I swapped the magnets to A2. I prefer A2 in my bridge HBs. It worked out great in those two guitars.

I like the sweeter top end of A2 in a bridge HB.
