By any chance are the strap buttons that came on the American Series Strat the same as the buttons that come with the Fender/Schaller style locking strap button set. I think they used the same strap buttons on the American Standard as well. I dont have a Standard or the locking strap setup but looking at pictures they look simular. Just wondering if Fender put these on figuring people would want to buy their locking strap set.

If memory serves me right they came with strap locks like you describe. I think it was 08 when they went back to the standard buttons because people complained about them. The strap buttons on the American Standards (later version) are non locking type and are the vintage button type.

Well the locking style buttons suck if you just want to use a strap without the locking part. I'm thinking about changing them to the Vintage style like my Tele has. A strap dont slip off thise easily and I plan on using those rubber strap blockers. They are quick on and off and dont ding up your guitar finish.

Agreed. The Schaller and the Fender version (virtually identical) are not secure at all when used with a button-hole strap connection.

Replace 'em before you have a story to tell about a dropped guitar :0/

Those are inexpensive and they work great.

That little eyelet at the top is there so you can use a sewing awl to install it on your guitar strap. Use several turns of strong upholstery thread, and the little lock will always be on each end of your strap and ready to go.

Eh, I removed every Shaller I have from every guitar and went back to the original strap buttons. I'm not playing out, my straps are secure, and it just seems better to me. I got a pile of Shallers in my box.
