After moving from Dx to FX with my Nikon D750 / 24-120 f4 lens kit purchase earlier this year, I spring for the 16-35 f4 today.

This is a really nice lens and coming up to Maine with me this weekend for some hiking, a brewery tour and the Fryeburg fair.

I don't need the "holy trinity of f2.8 zooms, but all the variable aperture stuff seems way too plastic-y. This fills a nice niche in the "pro-sumer" space.

Ooooh, nice! I rarely touch my DSLRs anymore as I'm such a fan of the Fuji XP-1 and the 18-55 zoom.

I use the 14-24 a lot on the D800, but have been thinking about the 16-35. The 14-24 is limited at the 14mm end, you have to nurse it.

Thinking about a fixed super wide.

I bet you get some excellent captures!

The current crop of pro quality f/4 zooms are superb. Enjoy!

I'm a DX guy with lowly D3300. I keep a 18-105 f3.5-5.6 on it all the time and find I rarely need anything else. My 85mm macro at times but that's about it. For a cheap lens the 18-105 is amazing.

Hammond, I agree that the 18-105 is a really good lens. When I bought my D90, it was the kit lens that came with the camera. I've moved it to my D7000. I also have that 85mm macro (and a 35).

Chris, I've thought about a higher quality smaller prime lens just to make for a smaller package to haul around at time but I'm addicted to the versatility of a zoom.

With 24 point however many megapixels there is plenty to play with crop wise but I like framing a photo with the zoom and doing less on the desktop. Maybe someday.

I'm actually really enjoying the little Nikon DSLR. It's smaller and weighs about 1/3 of what my film Nikons did with a similar lens. I do sort of lust over a D500 though.
