The membership of the FDP is pretty much the perfect age to have seen the arc of Hugh Hefner's life lived out as we found our way in a changing world.

His death is a milestone and I hoped we would be able to be a bit nostalgic, poke a little fun and have our own little wake for a truly interesting and uniquely American character.

Yet we couldn't keep it friendly for one day...

Some serious attitude adjusting is needed to get back to a fun FDP.

I hope this lasts long enough to be read enough to "resurrect" a thread on Hugh Hefner, who lived to 91 but no longer walks erect upon this mortal coil.

RIP

Well, we can either allow divergent opinions or I can ban people who disagree with you. What do you think? Are you taking things *that* seriously, Steve?

Exactly the opposite

A locked thread about Hef, because it turned contentious seems oddly ironic considering what the man began believing in.

I found it a bit of a worrisome sign.

I'm pushing for less serious, more good natured fun and a thread that remembers hef with a wink and a nod.

Also, more bad puns about Hef's life such as,

Hef thought he was a big deal, but he was just bush league

It's OK I already got one DOB'd on this topic today, which was not my intent so I'll keep my thoughts to myself .
I say we all have a cocktail and relax, shall we?

Duff's all around, soda and twist of lime for those Clean and Sober thread fellers.

Ah, understood, Steve. But when threads turn to bashing and insulting, it's simply easier to close them. If people could control themselves a little more, it wouldn't need to happen.

And Neil, you couldn't be more wrong. It's in how you expressed your "minority opinions" by, sorry to say, insulting the members who disagree with you. I suspect you know that's why a post was removed if you're being honest with yourself and the rest of the membership.

Chris, I really did not intend to insult anyone, but perhaps to provoke some though about the appropriateness of some of the topics here.

(I did edit my earlier post in the topic while some comments where being made aiming to make sure it was not controversial.)

I do hope any posts that I have made are not considered ad hominem, I have tried hard to avoid that.

CG, we agree. It needed to be closed. It didn't need to get to that point.

Continuing my hard work here,

Without Hef, do we ever get, Our Man Flint? He really did have a significant and lasting cultural influence.

Neil,

What we do here is pretty much in good fun. Trying to stir the pot like you did does not provoke thought, it ticks people off. As to the appropriateness of topics here, I'm gonna say that's our call, not yours.

Look, I know you're a good guy and, unlike most, you've been a great $upporter of the site and it is appreciated. But this isn't a good place to stick a rat in the sink, know what I mean? Moe's is about having fun and if you don't like a topic or it offends your sensibilities, maybe don't post on it if you're going to insult others whose point of view/opinion is just as valid as yours.

I agree Chris, I do usually follow that line - I don't post more often than I do for that reason. A lot of folks just don't want to hear a contrary opinion. Not sure that adds to the community, but as you stated it is your call.

Like I said, times change.

If one is to look at many remnants of the 60s now one might close one's eyes and hope it disappears, but this was, like it or not, our cultural heritage.

Playboy magazine was a home for some great writing and cultural narrative. Whatever anyone looking back with a narrow modern politically correct perspective thinks.

I looked at it as Vanity Fair with nudies.

You can find those in Vogue too, without the fantastic writing.

Steve to help get your topic back on track ...

Our Man Flint: Was that the movie where the hero spears a fly with a tiny knife that was ejected from a device he held in his mouth?

I recall that scene if nothing else!

I can't comment on Hef's character cause I didn't know the man.

The Magazine was a class act. It was more nude art then pron, like other rags.

The articles were very well done.

RIP
