Gato, I may have an old VW bug I could part with. Interested? I hear they hold up well in a crash situation.

I was thinking about Gato just last night.

One of the advertisers in my new "Vintage Guitar" magazine sells exotic cars as well as guitars. His ad this month included a '70 Super Beetle convertible- priced at $44k.

I wondered what Gato would think of that?

I'm still in my Mutant Ninja turtle shell back brace, still can't drive, still on meds, still getting lit up with radiation ("we need just ONE more x-ray).

And as the Oracles of Insurance and Shyster continue to bob and weave, moving forward by inches, I am confronted daily with my beloved 70 bug, sitting collapsed and forlorn on my garage floor.

Some days, as I shuffle around it, I think ... maybe I really could breathe life back into it. Other days I consider the exorbitant cost of such a medical procedure .....

On the way to yet another medical appointment yesterday, my wife drove us through the intersection where my accident occurred (Hey look! Those are my skid marks!).

As an oncoming vehicle moved into that fateful left turn pocket, I found myself involuntarily stiffening up and sitting further back. Vehicular PTSD?
Decades ago, I had a beater '64 bug that I did that to. The Myers Manx-style ones have a lower CG and an even shorter wheelbase than the old bugs, so they're as hoot to drive.

Still part of the family, but not as the gem it once was.
