I've been listening to a lot of female singer, songwriter and musicians lately, including:

Myrkur
Lucinda Williams
Chelsea Wolfe
Gretchen Menn
Avatarium (Jeannie-Anne Smith on lead vocals)
Margo Price

As far as guitar instrumental albums go, Gretchen Menn's "Abandon All Hope" is off the charts good. A MUST LISTEN IMHO.

I love Marty Friedman's playing, but his new album pales in comparison to Gretchen Menn's who shows herself to be a great composer, not just a great guitarist (her album has lots of orchestration). Marty came off as kind of a jerk in a resent interview too. Hey Marty, Gretsch can eat your lunch money and dinner money too when it comes to composition and artistic vision!

We've gone to see Shelby Lynne every time she comes through a local venue. A couple weeks ago it was her and her sister, Allison Moorer ,touring in support of an album they just did together. Mostly covers and some originals. An out of left cover they do is Nirvana's "Lithium".

Carol Kaye. Go back and check out her work, tryuly inspirational. And thinking further back, Mary Ford was a great guitar player in her own right, not just Les Paul's voice (and wife).

Karen Carpenter was one of the best drummers of her time. I;m not kidding, real jaw-dropping stuff.

Melissa Etheridge became one of my riock'n'roll heroes back in the late 80's. She's the real deal, an old school performer and song writer. Amazing talent.

And yes, a big thumbs up for Gretchen Menn and Tal Wilkenfeld. Both are fantastic musicians.

Annie Clark (St Vincent) is also amazing. She's a very capable guitar player in her own right and she designed a great guitar with Ernie Ball team, BTW. It's a real player's tone machine.

I'm a big fan of Mary Chapin Carpenter as a singer, songwriter, and darn good guitar player. Her latest album, "The Things That We Are Made Of," is outstanding.

I started a thread about her here on the FDP s few years ago and expected that it would be on Page 4 by the end of the day, but was surprised at the amount of respect that she got. Lots of fans of hers here.
