What's the consensus on these? I ask because there's a nice one w/footswitch on the local CL for $100.

Presuming a good speaker and useable cabinet and the amp is in proper operating condition, that is a great deal. The Roc Pro series were good sounding amps for their time. Fender always promoted these amps as "tube driven" though in reality, yes, they do have a single 12AX7 in the drive channel signal chain but that pretty much is all there is to the "tube driven" story. They are indeed solid state amps with a tube thrown in there for, as I always felt, for marketing purposes. I serviced several of them during their production run and never say anything particularly bad about them. My son had a Roc Pro 1000 at one time and loved it.

So again, if it's in decent shape, a C note for it sounds like a better than fair deal.

willie

Thanks Willie!

Is the 12AX7 operated at high voltage?

I have one in my garage. Down load the manual at fender, you can dial in some great tones. I put a Texas Heat speaker in it. Too much for my house and probably should part with. Does gain really well.

It sounds as good as any of the other decent Fender SS amps of the time.

I wouldn't say the tube adds anything, but...the amps sound decent enough for a hundred bucks!

I do have a Texas Heat sitting in a box.

Guessing this was their take on the Marshall Valvestates of the day. Ad says this amp is from 1996.

Yea, and an alternative to the "Deluxe 112/95/etc" for the young rocker.

It looks like a nice specimen for the price - footswitch included. I'll probably pass.

My space is so limited these days.

The tube is operated at a low voltage and serves more like a distortion device or clipper.

w
