I played several when they came out.

Wasn't sold on any of them, so I stayed with my Mustangs.

Keep in mind beyond the premium for the USA manufacture that all the MIM Squiers and MIM stuff in general of that era are US-cut wood - only the finishing and paint was done in Mexico.

I own 3 Squier Strats and 2 Squier Teles. All are imports for sure and all are outstanding guitars. I probably should sell down some of my stuff but haven't been able to let much go. I'm still hangin' at around 45 guitars.
Both Squier Teles are well made, great finishes, strong pups and after setup, they are killer players.

Mine has a five digit SN on the neckplate, number 00175. Most US made Squier i've seen have a 6 digit SN, the others have the SN on the head... Those guitars are really a mystery...

They're not so much a mystery but simply an expedient while Squier production was trashed in the aftermath of the Mexican plant burning down and while the current Ensenada one was gearing up.

A combination of "whatever was on hand" with no reason or rhyme.
