Hi guys... Can anyone help me figure out what tuning Steve Cropped is using on the McLemore Ave CD? Playing along with the record I have to conclude that he's using a capo because the tuning certainly isn't 'guitar friendly'! Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Cropper almost always played in standard tuning, and he sometimes used a capo to achieve a mandolin-like tone for some chord stuff.

The only altered tuning he sometimes used was open E. So what you're hearing may be open E with a capo on it.

That record is amazing. For the uninitiated, McLemore was the street where Stax was, and it's the MG's covering Abbey Road. Get it?

Back to your regularly scheduled thread..
