They seem to be be quite rare. I'd like to play one. Possibly add one to my collection.

Anyone with thoughts on this? How do they play?

I never got to gig with a Mosrite bass but I did try one out several times at a local shop back in the 60s...WOW, that had a thinner neck than I had ever seen on bass guitar. Fast, easy action. I was too dumb and too broke to buy it. If I found one today and it was anywhere close to my budget...it would be mine.

Actually cheaper than I expected when I looked them up.

I always thought they were Japanese imports from the looks alone, and stayed away because I've had VERY bad experience with 60s Japanese electrics.

Eastwood Guitars is making what appears to be a fairly good copy of the Mosrite in 4 and 6 string. They look like the real thing but I have not seen one in person to know if it is close to the original or not.

They have a website:

http://www.mosriteguitars.com/

Kinda pricey for the new ones. Old basses seem to go for $1200-1600.

Eastwood is hit or miss - I looked into them as an option before the Bass VI resurgence as one of the only options, and the user reviews I got from people who have played their various stuff was uniformly "about twice what it should cost for the level of quality."
