Give me a second to think of something..

Whew! I've wanted one of these for years, but never saw one I was willing to pay for...lol

A local shop had one on clearence (actually two, so I got to pick the one I liked best). They have been on their wall for over three years so they clearanced them a few months ago. I watched the price drop, then drop, and drop again until it was within financial reach, shook off the sweats and grabbed it.

Man, I've had it for a couple weeks now and it it's one SWEET sounding guitar. I've had a ES-165 Herb Ellis for years that has been a good go to jazz box, and a 1957 ES-350 that has become more of a blues box, but this L5 is just stunning!

I do believe this one is a keeper, and if I ever decide to sell it I should be able to actually make a few bucks!

Wow! SWEET guitar.

The L5, first made in 1922, was the very first archtop acoustic guitar with F holes. Up to that point, guitars usually had one large round hole. It was known as a "cello guitar" back then.

CES = cutaway, electric Spanish.

Yep, and they have made several variations since then, including adding pickups in the '40's.

I'm liking it!

Thanks! I got it for over 55% off the regular price, so I couldn't really say no. But even then I'm certainly glad that I got 24 month financing...lol. When I was working I would have just paid cash (and still could if I wanted too), but spreading it out over at least a few months does help the ol' cash flow...lol

It's definitely a keeper. I don't think they make too many of these things every year.

Welcome to the club!
I bought my first one 35 yrs ago in my neighborhood from the newspaper classifieds ($900!)
My previous electric was an ES-175 and getting an L-5 was like getting a Rolls.

Since then I've had many others (currently have 4 from the 20s to 60s) but I still remember getting my 1st
Enjoy!

Thanks! Yeah, as much as I like my Herb Ellis the L5 is just amazing. The HE will stay, but it's roll may be reduced...lol

My ES-350 is from early '57, one of the last ones with P-90's and it just screams! A previous owner put a Bigsby on it and I'd like to find a decent original-esque tailpiece for it but no luck yet.

I just checked it, I'd probably stay away from that $375 one [not the one I linked]
you want an engraved one

Yeah, an engraved one would be the ticket, although that aftermarket one you linked too ain't bad (except it would need some relicing to match the rest of the guitar)!
