The rain sounds like

a round of applause

Today is the day all us music freaks celebrate the introduction of the first mass-produced programmable drum machine: the Roland TR-808, introduced in 1980, and made for only three years.

Unlike the LinnDrum, which triggered stored sound samples, the 808 was all analog. And it did sound fantastic on recordings.

It is still in use today in more than a few recording studios.

There's a new version of it and the SH-101 out in the Boutique line as well now.

The SH-101 I can speak for is dead stupid good - I have all the features therein in a plugout in my System-1 and it is an astonishing little bit of programming.

I celebrate Aug. 8th for its rarity. It only happens once a year.

I think the TR-707 is the drum machine I used to own back in the day.

Well....My nephew suggested today we use an 808 on the kick (recording) and it sounds Great!

Almost spiritual for him! Loves the tones.

Too Much GAS

I had one of the first ones ever produced and got a smoking deal on it. I had a good friend who worked in a music store that sold it to me for cost. Kept it for a few years and sold it for a ridiculous amount of money. I never was really into that sound. I wanted something that sounded like real drums.
