I have been falling into some great deals lately. Found these two from someone I've known for over 30 years. These amps belonged to her husband's father. They sold them to me last Fri.

Not sure if these are going to open. I can't get them to open up.
Anyway, one is a Gibson EH-185 from the 40's and the other is a 50's Silvertone 1333. Both need service. The Gibson amp obviously hasn't been played in a long time. 2-6L6 amp with a 12" electro-magnet speaker.
The Silvertone was in much better condition inside. I changed out most of the electrolytics, brought it up on my variac and it sounded great. Both will need to be checked out by a more experienced tech than myself.

The second link worked... they look great! The older I get (59 now) the more I like old gear.

Congratulations!

You just amaze me with the cool stuff you find. That Gibby with the field coil speaker is way cool and should sound excellent when brought up snuff.

I don't much about the Silvertone line but have worked on a couple that sounded excellent.

Congrats!

Very cool!

I can't help thinking they look like fire/electrocution hazards if they're still all original.
I'm sure you'll sort that all out though!

FYI, second link works on my iPhone but not computer. (???)

edit to add: I bet they'd sound killer for blues harp!

Thanks for the ad spud.
I don't know why the pics are not working as the normally should.
The Gibson power cord is totally dried up and cracking. The Silvertone cord was in great condition. Looked original. I need to check all tubes and let a good tech look at both.
Rich, I guess I'm just lucky. We don't have a lot of out of town traffic through here so it's mostly the locals who are finding these treasures. Lots of old musicians around here.

I have 3 EH-185's.
One looks almost new, bought by a guy in 1940. into the closet it went w/the war and stayed there until I wound up w/it.
Even has the original canvas cover.

plug a guitar w/a Charlie Christian pickup into one and it's instant Charlie Christian tone.

jazzyguy, what kind of service did you have to do to your 185's?
I'm pretty sure the one I have has never seen a tech. The electro-mag speaker cable has been cut but looks easy enough to put back together. The power cords on mine is crumbling to pieces.
I have the Silvertone 1333 up and running.

BbendFender,

Two were serviced before I got them, the mint one coud use it.
The problem w/old Gibson amps is they're a birds nest of electrical components that are a pain to work on, compared to a neatly laid out Fender.

Sorry I couldn't answer your question.
