Does anyone know what happened to this company other than closing down? I have an Experience pedal that is amazing. Always see Doyle Bramhall talk about it. Went to their site and no more...

boo-teek pedal companies are a dime a dozen, and they come and go like the seasons.<br /> <br /> Low-production numbers and high cost keeps this sort of stuff in a "niche" market. <br /> <br /> You either stick with the business when sales are down *because you love the work that much* even though you're losing money--or you cut losses and bail.

Mmmmmmm. Know Jack Brossart personally. I've owned a played all of his pedals and I've had many long conversations about the pedal business, his life, etc. He founded and ran (one man show) Prescription Electronics in Portland Oregon in 1993 and ran it until 2014. That's 21 years. Pretty decent run for a guy that loved everything Hendrix and made the pedals to reflect that love. Given that, I don't really think he qualifies under "dime a dozen" or "come and go like the seasons." Jack enjoyed varied success over the years, and certainly kept the business going through thick and thin. Prescription closed it's doors in 2014 and from my understanding stopped taking orders in 2015. As far as I know (I have lost touch with Jack as well) he is still alive and well in the Portland area. Jack and his business were very low key. Not surprising that's the way he bowed out. <br /> <br /> :)

Good to hear he's doing well. I have two of his pedals. One needed a new switch, and you guessed it...I spoke directly to him. His stuff was not a dime a dozen...I personally feel his designs could have went further if he didn't keep it to himself and expanded marketing, etc, but still a success in my mind.

That was not a slam at all. Small niche businesses are especially prone to failure. <br /> <br /> Only 20% make it past the first year. Of those that do, only 50% of them are left after five years. And only 30% of the remainder are around after 10 years. 20 years is a good run for a company like this. But boo-teek pedal (and amp) companies do come and go. Same for guitar makers.

Peegoo nails it...what he says about these small specialty electronics mfg is absolutely true. Much like small custom amp companies...I did it myself and was lucky to be able to get out before I lost my arse and went back to amp servicing. <br /> <br /> Effects pedal mfg is indeed a niche market that sees huge turnover. It's really a shame as these people are entrepreneurs that have dreams...but most often they are under capitalized and have minimal business and marketing skills. <br /> <br /> willie

But also consider the aspect of how many of these things (pedals or amps) can you possibly sell? Certainly there are plenty of guitarists, bassists and the like out there. But the scale at which you gotta sell stuff to be truly successful is pretty steep; nobody's going to be able to sell every musician one of their pedals--it is a fragmented marketplace. Just selling hundreds of units ain't gonna do it. You've gotta really have the capacity to both penetrate a market and have the manufacturing capacity to meet that demand.<br /> <br /> A tough equation to get right.
