I have a friend from college who played this guitar....the story was that her grandmother had a rental house and this was left in a closet by a tenant. Headstock says Fender and "1952". Looks like a mustang or duo-sonic...but with a cut-out behind the saddle? And a different headstock? Anybody have any info in this?

Photobucket wouldn't come up, but it sounds like it could be the Swinger / Musiclander, made up from leftover Musicmaster bodies. Don't know about the "1952" though.

That's a Fender Swinger. Short scale guitar thrown together to get rid of surplus parts from other discontinued models. Introduced in 1969, they only made a few hundred of them. Highly collectible now.

A Swinger for sure - I have one from 1968 in CAR.
