I'm trying to trouble shoot an Electro Harmonix Wiggler with extremely low output when engaged. (It's owned by a student of mine, it never worked since the day he bought it but he figured it was something he was doing wrong. It went in the cupboard for years and he's long out of warranty).

I swapped the tubes for a known-working pair to no avail. The tubes do not appear to be heating but I don't know if that's normal operation for this pedal or not. There are no obvious problems with solder joints to the tube sockets and tracing back the connections to pins 4 and 5 on the tube sockets shows no obvious issues.

Can anyone offer trouble shooting tips for this thing?
Should the tubes be heating and lighting up as if in a standard preamp?

Thanks so much.

Yes the tubes should be warming up (the heaters need to warm up in order for the tubes to work their magic). Pull the data sheets on the tubes, find a schematic for the pedal, and test things with a meter to see if all voltages are in spec.
