Wasn't sure were to post this.... but here is best (I guess).

Just for giggles, I may need to temporarily possess one of these.

These are interesting, for sure. I'm a big ABG fan and haven't been without at least one for 20 years now - as a matter of fact my new Emerald Balor 5 is under construction and will replace at least one of my current pair of Tacoma 5s.

I've never been able to bond with the Kala UBasses, and currently have a Gold Tone 25" scale acoustic with the polymer strings. These Taylors came out since I picked that one up, I'd like to demo one.

One issue is that I like my ABGs to be usable around the house unplugged - I regularly jam without an amp with a single guitar in a living room setting. I don't know if these Taylors have the oomph to do that like my others.

But, if they figured out a way to pull off a five string I'd have to try one!

I don't like the fact that only one company makes strings for them. If they stopped making those strings, I'm suppose you could find something that would work, but probably not as well. Those particular strings were probably designed to optimize the bass's potential.

I'd like to try one out.

I've tried out the Kala Ubass, it's tuff to nail the intonation on such a short scale fretted bass. I had an Ashbory for a while but the silicon strings became a deal breaker and got rid of it. Traded it for a Ukulele.

So, I was browsing a Uke forum and meet Owen Holt of Road Toad Ukulele. He came up with the Pahoehoe polyurethane strings for his line of bass ukulele, they don't break nearly as often as the Ashbory strings did.

I contacted Owen about the strings, tuners and transducers he had made available and made up the 20" scale cigarbox bass that I've been playing for 10 years or so now.

I've made up 3 of these so far, one went to an FDPer another for a bass player who was playing with a buddy of mine in Coral Gables. I have a handful of others that want them but I haven't been inspired to build any more. I get crazy money for them, but it's not much of an incentive.

Lots of fret buzz. Too Greg Kochywannabe...I'd want a fretless.

Other than that....

:-p

Nah, it's pretty cool.
