Did not expect to come home with a Strat but by golly I did. It's a 79 Sunburst with maple neck. Not at all the "boat anchor" that these are known for, very resonant. It's been a long while but I'm a Strat guy again!

Sounds nice, congrats! Is the body made out of ash?

5STrats, the wood grain appears to be Ash like but I'm not sure.

Viera, no, it has a tremolo.

Mick, I feel in good about calling a 38 year old guitar "vintage". Regardless, it sure is fun to play!

Any opinions on wood type? Does this look like a left handed case? It was advertised as OHSC.

Nice!

I can't comment whether or not the case is "original", but the orientation is right handed.
All my cases are headstock left/body right.

Hmm, that doesn't look like a typical righty case to me. The rectangular cases I'm familiar with have the storage box on the latch side of the case, not the hinge side (link).

I guess it looks normal to Mick because he's in the southern hemisphere, where everything is backwards.

Yes Te 52, that has been my experience as well. I have 2 other 70's era Fender cases and as you said, they both have the pocket to the latch side. As do all other rectangular cases I own and have seen.

No. Everything is upside down, not backwards silly!

Wouldn't a lefty case be opposite with body compartment left and headstock right???

I'm sure that's what I saw at the Leftorium ;^)

Hopefully a real lefty will weigh in...

Man I love 70s Strats. Mars...is that white and maple strat in your pics also an original 70s strat?

teemon, yes it's a 74. The guitar is not original, it had been refinished with a rattle can and someone converted it to a 4 bolt neck. Also the finish had been stripped off the neck during a re-fret. The neck was very unstable with the oil finish. So currently, I'm having the neck re-sprayed, and the body repainted back to it's original Olympic White. It's been a long while in the shop. That's what spurred the most recent purchase, not having a Strat in my possession.

They drive on the left side of the road, the sun rises in the west, clock hands turn backwards, it's just too weird.

I have the hardtail version of that same guitar, had it since 1980 and still love it! That's definitely not the original case, the originals were molded with the name Fender on the sides, like this one, https://reverb-res.cloudinary.com/image/upload/s--xNiZIIMJ--/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_progressive,g_south,h_620,q_90,w_620/v1478893562/mqrsycaggseuicuoqxpe.jpg
