I heard a while back that Fender Japan would be shut down...something to the extent of Fender would not renew its license for Japan(locally or otherwise) because it would focus now on making their"Japanese made" products in Mexico...but yet I see the pink paisley guitars being still sold ...which correct me if I'm wrong are still a Japanese product?

I wonder if Fender will get scolded for making stuff in Mexico?

The Blue Flower Teles being sold right now are stamped as Japanese. It could be that they're ordering special runs but not maintaining a straight up licensing deal for domestic Japanese production.

I see plenty of lefty offerings floating around. That was one thing they were known for.

Fender Japan, Ltd. was the joint-venture between Fender Musical Instruments Corporation, Kanda Shokai (ç¥ç°åä¼?) and Yamano Gakki (å±±é楽å¨?), which operated the Japanese business of Fender musical instruments from 1982 to 2015. The venture involved the domestic production and sale of Fender instruments for the Japanese market.<br /> The venture ended on March 31, 2015 and Fender itself (through its company Fender Music Corporation (Japan)) took over the Japanese business effective April 1, 2015 with Fender-manufactured product line. The Japanese-made Fender guitars sold by Fender Music Corporation (Japan) have since been categorized as the "Japan Exclusive" series.<br /> <br /> The Internet is your friend.

That Wiki story seems to say that FMIC is still producing guitars in Japan under the USA corporate flag (Fender Japan is gone), but it doesn't really explain what the ongoing status of Fender in Japan is. It seems like they're in some kind of transitional mode, and there's not much info around on the future plans.

^There's a significant difference between a Japanese Fender made under license and a guitar from a Fender-controlled, Japanese manufacturer.<br /> <br /> The companies that make all of the cool weird stuff mostly build for the domestic Japanese market. Fender USA likes red, black, white and sunburst Strats. I think the variety of offerings and the attention to detail may decrease with less attention from management.

"I see plenty of lefty offerings floating around. That was one thing they were known for."<br /> <br /> IIRC Japan has? had? the highest, or a very close 2nd highest, percentage of left-handed citizens, around 10-11%. <br />
