Anybody know when Fender had Ashtray covers on the Strats? I'm not talking RI's but old Strats...

I read somewhere they used them for 20 years. What year did they fade them out? I don't think they made it to the 70's...<br />

My '65 has its original ashtray cover so they were standard issue during the CBS transition.

Well, Leo didn't call them "ash trays." Players did.<br /> <br /> They removed them from their Telecasters (they were first) and then Strats.<br /> <br /> Rather than tossing them in the trash because they were useless, players discovered they made an excellent ashtray to keep from burning the tweed or Tolex atop the amp.
