Curious how you like yours, what mods/improvements you may have made or suggest? A nicely priced used one is for sale locally. Before I go see it I'd like to know what to look for. I had a Squier J Mascis for a while but let it go.

They are a good deal for the money. Fit and finish are as good as higher priced models. The "hotter" pickups it comes with were replaced with AVRI pups. (It doesn't sound like a Jazzmaster with them). You may like them, but if you expect the true Jazzy tone out of the box, you're in for disappointment.

I'm not fond of the TOM bridge on the CP model. It can cause string bind and tuning stability problems. I don't like the TOM on anything with a wang bar. Just me though, lost of folks never complain.

I have a CP Jag HH.

It's as stupid good guitar.

It's my main synth driver as well - tuning and intonation is dead stable, and the bar doesn't throw it out of tune to space.

I'm opposite Hammond101 on this - I have no issues with the TOM on anything with a Jag/JM trem system.

Have a Mascis JM as well.

The CP Jag feels a lot more solid (not that the Mascis feels cheap), to a point where I haven't wanted to spend money when it came down to pulling the trigger on anything pricier in offsetland.

Thanks guys.
Hammond101 - Good pt. It is weird to me that it doesn't sport roller saddles or a rocker bridge.

A rocker is a pain in the tail feathers but rollers would be nice. I have a CP Jag. It's well-made.

Different strokes for different folks. I happen to like rockers. The Jag/JM rocker works well if set up properly. I put a roller on my Pawn Shop Offset Special and a Epi Wilshire with Bigsby. They both work great compared to the TOMs that came on them.

Oh I like rockers, too! They just have to be set up right and require a little more attention than rollers or similar.

Joke is I have no issue with the stock bridges either.

It's all a matter of setup and knowing how to work the things!

^^This!^^

So many players get disgusted with the stock JM/Jag bridge so they swap it out not really knowing what they are doing.

A bit of added neck angle and a little Loctite and the rocker works great, adds to the original vibe and tone of the instrument. Buzz Stop...NO!

Rob, I always seem to get a bit of "sticktion" with a TOM that upsets my tuning slightly.

Hmm..never seen that, but I do use stainless strings as well, not that it might be the solution but it's certainly different than most.

After some cogitation I've decided what I *really* need is the 60s lacguer JM. If anybody sees or hears of a deal (under $999 new) please let me know. I'm officially sniffing around for one.

MF has Fender stuff at double rewards this month if you can stomach that - 16% credit I think 45 days after purchase.

That'd work out to a lot of strings or a pedal or whatever!

Update: Wilcutt Guitars had a sale on a new 60s Lacquer JM. It was too much to resist. It arrived yesterday. Pickups are *fantastic*. Needs a little nut work but otherwise aces. Not as heavy as expected. Surf green is very pale and attractive (sometimes they look too green in flash pics.) Smells like nitro. I'm thoroughly digging it. Nice to own a JM again!
