Hey all,
Looking to replace the neck and middle single coils in my HSS Strat. I've been eyeing up the Lace Sensor Emerald or Hot Gold pickups. I'm leaning towards the Hot Gold but I'm not quite sure. I use them for everything from high gain leads to cleans but still want them to sound like a traditional single coil.
Anyone with experience with either care to chime in?
Thanks.

I've tried all of the lace sensors except for the ones you mentioned...lol

its hard to say one is better than another...
I had a light blue/blue custom made dually from Lace...and one of the guys I spoke with mentioned how much positive feedback they have received from the light blue...

I have also tried the burgundy in the neck as well as the purple in the neck... i have to give the nod to the burgundy

the guys at Lace music are pretty easy going and nice to correspond with....it might help if you contact them and tell them exactly what you're looking for
they may have some sound clips.... I now theyre re probably some on You Tube as well..

You didn't say what the HB is, but my personal favourite LS combination (S/S/S) is Burgundy (bridge) Hot Silver (middle) Light Blue (neck).

Even a "regular" Silver works nicely in the middle, but I find the "Hot" lends to better 2 & 4 position tones.

Heaps of people like the Hot Golds, but I tried a set and preferred the combination I came up with. I say "came up with" because I went through a range of "colours", mixing & matching until I got what I liked.

This was back in 2012, and *now* Lace actually offer this combination as a set! (called the Lace Blue Fire 3-pack).
I'm sure it's just coincidence, but I told Don Lace (Jr.) about this combination in a phone conversation in 2015...

Happy to share more if you're interested :^)
Great combination Mick..although you could easily switch the Lt. blue and the burgundy...

Until Lace came up with the newer versions, I always thought that 3 silvers for a strat was the way to go

"..although you could easily switch the Lt. blue and the burgundy..."

When I was going through the mixing & matching process, one combo I tried was a Burgundy in the neck; Silver in the middle; Purple in the bridge.
For reasons I can't specifically remember (near 5 years ago) it didn't work for me and tried the Burgundy in the bridge and that's where it's stayed.
I ditched the Purple and went to the Light Blue in the neck. Again, that's where it stayed.
At some point before the Light Blue, I tried a (regular) Blue, and it was horrible imo. Way too dark & muddy.

"Until Lace came up with the newer versions, I always thought that 3 silvers for a strat was the way to go"

I've always wanted to try a full set of Silvers. I think they would sound great too.

I currently have a Hot Silver in the neck of my 2 pickup strat and works really well.

Btw, you still have said what HB you're mating with.

The Lace SC's are not noiseless, but rather noise reduced.

Since you have a HB, why not go with noiseless SC's?
Hey everyone. Kinda forgot about this post for a few days lol (oops).

Mick - The humbucker is a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom (TB-11? I think). I'll take a look at your suggestions.

ejm - I know they aren't completely noise cancelling; reduced noise is good enough though. I'm mostly concerned with them sounding traditional. I've already got noiseless Duncans and I'm not quite happy with them.
I probably should've known better not to put them in since I've never taken too well to any noiseless single coils; I was hopeful these would change my mind but they didn't. Plus they have waaaay too much of that stratitis warble so I can't get them anywhere near the height I'd like to get them to sound good (another +1 on the Lace - the low magnetic pull).
Kinda went off on a tangent there lol.

I'm gonna try asking Lace as well (as someone has suggested earlier).
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'll check back a bit sooner next time lol.

Just heard back from Lace. They suggested Gold for the neck and Silver for the middle. You're on to something with a Silver in the middle, Mick.

"You're on to something with a Silver in the middle, Mick."

I can't take too much credit for that, but I'm small enough to appreciate the affirmation! ;^P

I'm a big fan of the 6K Hot Golds. Singles in N & M and a dually in the bridge. I also wired the Strat so that I can put different combinations in series. Awesome guitar. It took me 10 years of mixing and matching to get to a final solution. All is well now. Good Luck!

"Green?"

I'm pretty sure he means Emerald.

Haven't tried them myself, but there's a few YT demos that sound pretty good.

I like the Hot Golds and have a set in one of my Strats but I prefer the regular Golds in the bridge position. The Hot Golds bridge pickup sounds a bit thinner and shriller to me.

I think if I were to buy another set I would stick with the regular Golds.
