Fender use to produce a Stratocaster (my still do for all I know) with a mahogany body, two P90's I think a fixed bridge with a small black plastic pickguard.
What was it called?
Has fender ever made a regular Strat with two single coils and a P90 in the bridge? I know other makers have produced such a model but it would be interesting to see a Fender version.

Theriddler:

Dumb question here, my friend, but are you SURE it was a Stratocaster and NOT A Telecaster with the Mahogony Body and two P90's that you were thinking of?

I think it was called the Stratosonic.

Yes that's it guys the Stratosonic, you could get it with one or two pickups and a chambered body, looks like its been discountinued.
Would hve loved to have a go on one but the guitar shops in Ireland are very conservative and only stock the usual models and brands.

Yes, there was also a Telecaster version called the Telesonic. Chambered mahogany body, 24-3/4" scale, DeArmond 2K pickups, Gibson-style controls, special design bridge.

Interesting concept on paper, but it was kind of a dud, and didn't last long.

I think it was also called the "Black Dove" model.

More recently, there was the Squier Tele Custom II, which was a Tele version with no mahogany, but I think those are discontinued also.

I'd play that single pickup model all day without a peep of strat coming out of it...very cool.
