I love my pbass’ and my jbass’…each one fit in the band context differently, but you all know that already. To me a jbass just fits my hands better and is easier to play. So, could you drop a pbass pickup in a jbass (between the existing pickups) and wire it such that at the flip of a switch you have one or the other? I know I’ve seen a bass in that configuration but I don’t know if it’s built on a j chassis. There’s a Squier modified vintage jazz on my local Clist for $150 and I’m thinking of trying out this idea. Has anyone tried this?

The Fender Stu Hamm Signature Bass had that arrangement.

Danny

That's the one I've seen, someone here locally has one. But if I'm not mistaken the Urge has a "B" neck as opposed to the jazz "A" neck. Also, I laid a j and a p side by side and to my eye, a p pickup between two j's will result in it not being in the same place as a regular pbass. I wonder how much that would effect the tone...

The necks were between an A and B. Didn't have quite the taper from nut to body join. Nice profile as well. I don't think you'll be off the sweet spot all that much w/ the Precision pickup, if at all.

Danny
