The "nitro/lacquer" one? My MIM Jazz was purchased in haste for a recording project, oh, 15 years ago or so. I like the neck but boy do I hate wine red. Today I ordered a mint 3 TSB "Fender Vintage 60s RI LACQUER Nitro JAZZ BASS BODY" from seller Stratosphere. I've always really dug the burst J-basses with tort pickguard (order that too).

So of course my "will it fit" inquiry from last week got answered after I pulled the trigger today. A basic "maybe, but unless you consult a luthier we wouldn't recommend it" response.

Anyone know of anything unique about the fit of these two pieces? I'm thinking I should be good to go, and at worst, out shipping if I have to send it back.

Also got a set of SD Apollo pickups enroute.

Well, I'll anxiously await the arrival of the body to see if everything fits.

For the past 20 years, I have been a huge fan of finding Fender necks and bodies from different basses that, when put together, often work better than the necks or bodies with which these basses left the factory. Thus...a "parts" bass.

I know many on this forum have done the same thing.

I can only remember one time in which I couldn't get things to work. I know I'm preaching to the choir when I say that Fenders were designed and manufactured with a Henry Ford mentality. A neck from one year, a thumbrest from anther, a body and neck ten years apart in age, old pickups in a newer body...everything generally works, very friendly to the player who wants to try something different.

George

I think Stratosphere is a great seller.

in 2015 I got a 2015 '62 RI Jazz neck from them (nitro, with vintage frets). I paired that with a NOS 2012 MIM Fender Jazz body. Haven't looked back since: It's become my #1 player.

I like the neck so much that I am toying with getting another one and putting it on my '87 MIJ Squier Jazz...

Good luck with the new bass!

That's encouraging, dg. I'm really hoping fit isn't an issue.

I would be surprised if fit were a problem.

Body received and all buckled up. Neck fits perfectly fine. I had to take a little off of the neck pickup rout and pickguard to make my new Seymour Duncan Apollos to fit in, no real issue with the bridge pickup. I'm now eyeing the stock bridge and wondering if I can do better. God, I love 3 TSB basses with a tort guard.

My 2012 MIM Fender Jazz has a Fender vintage style bridge I'm very happy with in that bass (I wanted to stick with a stock look). I have three basses with a Gotoh 201B (high mass), which is a drop-in, direct replacement for a Fender stock bridge. I like that a lot.

It also comes in black and gold, though I greatly prefer the chrome.

I'll be curious to hear from George on necks too.
