I have a tele neck pickup that came out of my Squier CV 50's Tele which I removed the nickel cover. (they are the Tonerider pups that are OEM for Squier)

If I were to restore the pickup back to "stock" (ie: put the cover back on) would I have to re-place the wax that was inside the cover as well?

Is there any sonic or electronic reason that would necessitate this?

FTR after I removed the cover, I wrapped the coil wire with a cloth tape similar to the ribbon that pickup makers use on open humbuckers.

Maybe this should have gone in the Pup Tent, but it *is* tele-specific...

Thanks

Nah. Get the cover snug by crimping over the three tabs and you should be good.

The original wax fill is not just for the coil wire; it also locks the metal cover in place in relation to the coil.

It prevents the cover from vibrating or resonating independently of the coil and creating feedback.

Re-pot it if you get problems with squealing, etc.

Make sure to solder the ground lug too.
