Hi,

Does anyone have any info on this? I have a 92 and figured this was during their 'swimming pool' route days, but see it's snug for a single coil. Wanted to drop in a TVJones, but don't want to route. I guess it was the Strats they did the pool on?

They did 'em on Teles, too.

"They did 'em on Teles, too."

That just seems wrong...

Say what you will about the "universal rout." But I've got guitars with 'em that sound way better than any other guitars I've ever played...including $4K Custom Shop versions. I'm not saying that's because of the large rout cavity. But it just happens to be the case.

Sure...removing a pickguard and seeing a large cavity like that can be disconcerting. But in the end...it's how the guitar plays and sounds that counts. And in these particular instances, the tonal quality is remarkable.

In addition, there are some custom guitar makers like Don Grosh who insist on making large rout cavities 'cause they wholeheartedly believe that they add to the tonal dynamics of the instrument.

Room in the "pool" for everybody, I suppose.

well, i wish it was done on this tele. i also don't have an issue with the universal rout, it makes customizing much easier. so anyone know if the current american standard teles have?

Sorry, I should clarify.
I'm not dissing swimming pool routes in general, just the thought of one in a Tele seems odd to me.
Then again, I don't think a Tele should have more than 2 pickups either. But that's just me.

FTR, one of my most played strats has a universal route and it sounds great.
You'll definitely think I have rocks in my head when I tell you it's a 15 year old MIC Squier!

It's been modded within an inch of it's life and just a great player. I play over 50% of repertoire on that guitar.

I don't know if this helps, but my 2000 Amer. Series Tele has a Nashville Tele route and the neck pup route fits a humbucker. Take a look at "the Stratosphere" seller on ebay. They part out current production and you should have your answer in the "bodies" section.

My main Strat has the bathtub rout on it and it's the best sounding one out of three.

"My main Strat has the bathtub rout on it and it's the best sounding one out of three."

Same with my #1 Strat. I wouldn't insist that that's the reason. But it is, what it is. A great guitar.
