What is the difference between the 62 & 65 reissue Jaguars? Should one cost any more than the other?

Thanks
Steve

They don't make the '62s any more. They do make the '65s. The '65s have newer (and some say nicer) pickups, thinner paint, and binding on the fretboard. The '62s are cheaper and came in a lot more colors.

The '65, at least by market standards, should cost more new or used.

Both were pretty accurate to the original specs (and neither have not been able to reproduce the proper bridge cover yet that is good for anything more than keeping in the case) the original 62 was less fancy the 65 but none the less a great guitar. They both stated that fender was using the old machines machines to wind the pickups and I am not so sure that the originals were that different from one another (for those years). 65 was the year bought out by CBS and some say the quality control was standardized so there were less variations in the models back in 65 than in 62. I have played both and decided on a a.v. thin skin 62 (very deluxe looking and plays better and less expensive-different neck, frets and coat than either standards)- couldn't justify the price increase for what was gotten in return. the 65 reissues claim to pay more attention to details of the the originals but if you look at the originals you will see that they put more finesse in the original 65's than the 62's - pickups sound the same to my ears.

I've AB'd my friends original 63 with my original 65. Both sounded great with very similar tone but the 65 is more "dressed up" compared to the 63.

So did the AV reissue 62's have that string mute lever on them like the AV reissue 65's do???From what I am gathering here both guitars are pretty nice no mater which one you choose. Is the neck different on them?

Thanks
Steve

No mute on the '62 AVRI. BTW I prefer the '62 over the '65. Both are nice but the '62 has more bang for the buck.

My 62 AVRI has the mute. I think all of the 62's came with the mute. I've left it on, and I've used it on some recordings. You can get some very weird sounds with it.
