Last week, Musicians Friend offered as a Stupid Deal of the Day (priced @ $460 shipped) a Fender dread acoustic guitar with unexpectedly great build components -- all solid wood, sitka spruce top, Indian rosewood sides and back, quartersawn scalloped x-bracing, bone nut and saddle, Made in China (see link).

On an impulse I ordered one figuring what the heck I had 45 days to send it back.

The thing arrived yesterday -- I tuned it up and amazingly (maybe not) -- it's a really nice instrument.

It does need a set-up and the nut and saddles adjusted to lower the strings just a little.

But is plays well, has that nice rich ringing dread tone, and for the cost as a Stupid Deal, was an amazing value.

Probably not going to send it back -- but I do have 45 days to make that find decision.

It has made a booming statement around here to start.

The dread in question
On paper that's a very nice Dread. Interesting 25.3" scale length. Enjoy it!

$850.00 regular price and, if I read the specs correctly, no Elec/EQ?

Or maybe I need to get out more often.

Yes -- no elec/EQ -- that's what I wanted.

Taking it in today for a setup -- bridge adjustment and maybe some minor fret work as far as I can tell.

Got the guitar back Saturday -- needed nut and bridge work, some fret work, and a truss rod adjustment. Added new strings -- plays great(er) now.

A Fender acoustic certainly does not have the cache of top makers -- but the materials that went into this instrument are first rate and the results show that.

(Now if I could only play the dang thing!)

It's back on sale for the 4th of July -- recommended for consideration.
