I'm a big fan of LS's and have custom combinations in several strats.
I'm thinking about a set of VN's just to change things up a little.

Anyone have hands-on experience with both that can offer a comparison?

I definitely want some kind of noiseless but...

I've tried DiMarzio Area's and they didn't do it for me. Kinmans are *way* to expensive.
Bill Lawrence, I've been on the waiting list before and cancelled after 2 months.

Unless you're talking about the Holy Grails made by Lace, the standard Lace Sensors are noise REDUCED, not noiseLESS.

I had a Lace Gold and two Dimarzio Areas in a Clapton Strat for a short time. The difference in noise was absolutely noticeable.
"...Lace Sensors are noise REDUCED, not noiseLESS."

Thanks, I knew that.

Guess I should have specified tonal quality comparison.

Hot VN Fender pickups are excellent, as are the hot version of the SCN.

I have Gold Lace Sensor pickups in my '91 Jeff Beck Strat (dual Gold in the bridge) and they have their own unique sound which I like for something a bit different.

As mentioned, I love my LS's and whilst they don't sound exactly the same as true single coils, they still sound very "stratty" to me.

Do the VN's produce a more SC stratty kind of tone or a "good but different" like LS's?

Thanks again.

'nother question...

Those using VN's, you running 250k pots or 500k?

Good but different like LS.

I think the pots are 250k, but I'm not absolutely certain.

The pot values used/required between the VN and HN pups, as well as the development of these pups, have been well discussed here in years past.

It has been said that the HNs are an update of the VNs, which negates the need for the compensation provided by different pot values.

I have briefly played a Highway 1 Strat with HNs. I didn't play it a ton, but I thought that the pups sounded good.

Based upon my limited research I'd probably go with the HNs.

I replaced the LSs in my Clapton Strat with Areas. Not because I didn't like the LSs, but because the noise was getting to me. And BTW, the Areas are MUCH quieter than the LSs, but they are not dead quiet, at least not all of the time in my house, and at least not in the Clapton. I have a gut feeling (that has not been proven) that the Areas may be much quieter in a different "passive" guitar, and/or in a different house/environment.

However, if you are willing to go with LSs, that means that noiseless isn't a requirement, which means that anything is fair game.
I use Fender Hot Noiseless pickups in one of my Strats and love it. It has 250K pots.
