I am looking for a sound hole pickup. I know people here love the K&K minis, but I don't have that kind of money. What can you recommend in the way of a decent clamp-on sound hole pickup?

Thanks!

I once had a Fishman on a 12-string that sounded good. But I doubt that it's any cheaper than a K&K.

If you lived closer, you could buy a K&K for $95 and I would install it for you. The installation might cost you a 6-pack of Sam Adams, though.

LHW, don't know if you'll find a better option for a sound hole pickup that's cheaper these days. Both DiMarzio and Seymour Duncan (along with other companies) offer various magnetic sound hole pickups (or combinations of magnetic and microphone), prices vary according to technology...

There are certainly many soundhole pickups available, but cheap ones? Not sure how good those would be. I had a cheap DiMarzio that was just "ok", but I wouldn't buy it again. I have the LR Baggs M1 in two different guitars, and those are great.
On another note: if you like the K&K Minis, do yourself a favor and look up jjb electronics - they sell the exact same pickups as K&K, but for half the price. And they are made in USA, too. But they don't make a soundhole version. I just got one of their Prestige 330 models last week but haven't installed it yet. They make several different variations, all at a very reasonable price.

urbtone,

Thanks for the heads up on jjb... I have a new Larrivee acoustic coming in the next month or so, and will be considering one of these (I've used K&K before and have been very happy with them).
