I did this one today to test the new open space in the house - wood floors etc. The opposite of many dry recordings. Using rooms mics each time. Going for more of that old "Studio B" sound I guess.

No added verb. Just some eq, comp, and Slates Virtual Console Collestion and Virtual Tape Machines. For glue and vibe.

So that was a pretty exhausting use of 4 hours today setting that all up and playing all of that... but I like experimenting...

That's pretty cool, Aaron. Is it mono? Live drums? I've been wanting to try shooting for something similar on a instrumental and my one attempt was pretty miserable.

Good job.

Thanks, Larry. It's actually stereo, but not as wide as I would normally do things for a modern sound. I spread the room mics a little left or right to widen the instruments, and the drums are just two ksm 32s spaced over the kit. Live drums indeed. I was just trying to hang on playing those things. I haven't played in a long time...

Give it a try again! sometimes things work sometimes they dont. This was sounding pretty miserable at first but I hung on. It needed some tricks done to make it more even. Bus compression etc. I would need to have spent much more time with many mics to get the sound I wanted at the source... so I just did the naughty thing and deferred that to the mix.

Nice job! I don't have facilities nor the mics for real drums, and I'm not enough of a drummer to pull it off anyway. Very authentic sound, nicely done!
