I'm still enjoying the D-35; I don't know if I'm playing it enough to get it to open up noticeably, but it's got incredible volume and ring - it's louder and has more bass and punch than my 4 year old Larrivee D-03 and 2 year old Larrivee C-10.

I'm in the process of some guitar downsizing - mentally at this point: deciding what will stay and what will go up for sale. The D-35 is definitely staying, and both of the above mentioned Larrivee's may eventually be sold (but my first Larrivee, an OM-05, isn't going anywhere). Someday I do want to get a standard Larrivee L - probably with rosewood b/s, but maybe a customized one with hog top/b/s.

So - I'm still very impressed with this Martin. It has exceeded my expectations, especially by displacing a couple of Larrivees that I also really like.

If you're thinking of getting a Martin D-35 check out My Favorite Guitars, Maury's Music or Nazereth Music Center. I've dealt with all 3 of those dealers and they discount new Martin's 40% off of MSRP. Last time I checked Maurys has a new left handed D-18 in stock. MSRP is $2999.00 discounted and free shipping for $1799.00.

Hey Napman

Wish I could but I don't get the free shipping to Australia.

and the exchange rate and say $200 shipping would make that around $2800 aussie peso's

found a local dealer who will sell it to me for $3700 Aussie - about $2600US

That's too bad (about that price).

Because my local dealer knew my lefty D-35 was going to literally go out the door within a week of him getting it in, he gave me great price: $2199 (+ 7% sales tax). I even see used D-35's being offered for more than that!

I love my local dealer...

"That's too bad (about that price)."

Yeah that's the problem living a million miles away from everywhere,

Local dealers who screw you on price because you've got no choice,

And international dealers who sell it to you at there non discounted prices because there's no competition if you want it, you'll pay it.

Its just a shame that aussie dollar has dropped to 70cents US. - I should have bought one a year go.

Of that $3700, 10% is tax. and the fed government is talking about raising it to 15%

Yes...I see the same problem for guitarists in England and Europe...prices on USA guitars and amps are just insane! I would have a hard time justifying the high price.

Of course, if I lived in England, I'd find a way to justify owning a Lowden... or a Brooks; there are quite a few excellent British builders... do you Aussies get any break on products from GB?

Mikey,

No we don't its even worse than buying from the US, the exchange rate is virtually double!

The only place we can get a deal is on used Japanese made guitars from Japan.

but it is what it is, if I can afford it and I want it I'll buy it.

Seen a beautiful used Custom Shop 52 Tele with birdseye neck and pretty light, the other day online in the states.

And, said to myself if I didn't already have a 52RI and just ordered a guitar I'd consider it.
I think I saw that one too. Couldn't justify another Tele right now, though... the current economy (MY current economy!) is keeping my GAS under control...
