Life gets in the way of my G.A.S.

So, today I stopped in my local guitar haunt to drop off a guitar for consignment. Before I left, I mentioned, "Hey, if that lefty Casino ever DOES come in, I'd still like first crack at it, especially since I laid down $300 on it for about 4-5 months." He says, yeah, if it ever comes in, I'll get to look it over before they hang it on the wall.

Three hours later he calls me and says, "Mike, you'll never guess what happened!" I figured someone bought the guitar I brought in on consignment. He tells me the Casino came in this afternoon! Hah!

So I'll be checking it out tomorrow. I'll let you all know if I bring it home...

...just unbelievable. Ordered last July, finally arrives over 7 months later...

LOL!

We'll see. My car battery decided to die this morning...so I have to replace that today - ugh! Nothing is ever easy!

But I am going to go check it out. If it's *all that* I'll put some money down to hold it until I can pick it up - probably next week.

Well, the Casino came home with me. Beautiful, very plain wood front and back with a nice sunburst. Looks sweet.

Also plays great... I just lowered the bridge a little with the wheels. I'll put some 49-11 gauge strings on it. Has 9's and they' re floppy

The tones are impressive... Don't think I'll need to change the pickups. The v/t knobs work properly... Nice graduated tone changes.

I'll restring tonight and give an update, but so far it looks, plays and sounds topnotch! I'd give it a 9 or 9.5/10!!!

Here are the pics, and an updated, real world review after playing and inspecting it at home for a few days.

Still love the guitar, and the fit and finish is very good. Only "flaw" I've found is some torn out wood inside one of the f-holes. They're painted black, so this isn't really visible - no one would ever see it.

Changed the strings to 11's and love the stiffer feel. Only had to tweak the bridge down a bit, didn't have to adjust the truss rod for heavier strings.

The pickups do sound good - they'll stay for some time, I'm sure (especially with money so tight these days). But I've since realized that the v/t pots are wired backwards as are many of these lefties. The volumes work fine, but the tones do have that "shut off valve" at the end of their range (around 1-2). So they'll get changed soon...either I'll find some real lefty pots, or I'll just have it converted to right handed travel, and find some right-handed knobs to throw on - that's what I'm used to on my other guitars anyway.

More pics in profile...

Those are both beautiful guitars, but I really love the Casino! You're not helping my GAS problem!

They are very different beasts for sure. The Casino is so light and just rings unplugged. Clear sustain, very open tone; you can really hear "Beatles" guitar tones coming through! The tendency to feed back is there, though which is why semi-hollows were created...

The Yamaha just has that great 335 tone and feel, and I haven't changed a thing on it since I got it about a year ago this month. Pickups have just the right mix of power and clarity - so sweet! So impressive, and this was the low end of the line on these for Yamaha!

LRO,

LOL... that one stays! But I do appreciate you pointing it out to me.

I have 11-49 on both the Yammy and the Casino and they're perfect (for me).
