I'm looking for a good starter set (2) Conga's that would also be good to gig with. I'm a lead guitar player and new to percussion.

Thanks -Z

Just got a great set of LP Galaxy Giovanni's for a killer price! Not sure if they are a fit for what I need, but fun to play and sound fantastic!

LP and Toca etc. all make nice entry level stuff. Buy whatever you can afford. Just watch out for tension studs that are positioned where your hands will hit them. CP and LP solve the problem with a curved rim. I have a Djembe with studs that will destroy your hands but, my percussion teacher had me get sheep skin steering wheel covers at the auto parts store

The Galaxy's have a nice tall rim so I don't hit my thumbs on the band. But that's a great idea for the Djembe, my next hand drum :-)

Just picked up a "Pearl Travel Conga" on a whim and was surprised. It's a 11 3/4 diameter, about eight inches deep. I picked up a stand with it, easy set up & portable friendly. Used it in a small practice room (basement) without a "mic". The room held 3-guitars, 1-bass, keyboard, and drums; the sound of this thing cut through all that. I was impressed! Check it out on line, it's interesting.
