I don't play electric much anymore, so I decided to sell off a few guitars and replace one or two with cheap copies.

I just got an SX Hawk in vintage burst with a maple neck that has a 1-3/4" nut. With my huge hands, this thing feels like it was made for me. The quality of the woodwork and the tints and stain are very well done. Cosmetically, the guitar has a nice vintage look, but it's a little bit spoiled by bright white plastic. I might replace it with something parchment.

I expected to replace the pickups, but honestly, the neck and middle are perfectly fine. Only the brittle sound of the bridge pickup bothers me, so I'm looking into wiring across the switch to let a tone control work on the bridge pickup.

In general, I find it unbelievable what a nice guitar this is for only $109.

They are indeed great values for that price. I'm looking at one in natural ash for $119 just to set up as an HSS Strat - don't have one with that set up yet, and I have plenty of pickups around to drop into it.

A couple years ago I bought an SX Tele style on sale for $59...it has one of the best "Tele" bridge pickups in it I've ever heard! The frets still need some work to get the action a little lower, but the neck has a nice tint on it, and even some flame in it!

I just got a Hawk strat at my local sam ash. It has a gibson bridge and stop piece. differnt looking
Guy replaced the tuners, bone nut, all controls, roller bridge and pickups are changed out, bridge is a dimarzio.. All under 75.00

I own 4 guitars and 3 are SX... Cant beat 'em for wha they are. After 50 years of playing, i cant play these better than a 1100.00 strat/tele

I'm thinking about getting one of these and putting a Warmoth maple neck on it (that I already have), a black guard and a humbucker at the bridge (I don't have a Strat with an HSS set-up, so that's my motivation).

I continue to be amazed at this SX Hawk. A friend suggested a small mod I really like. It amounted to nothing but moving one wire over one space on the switch. What it did was leave the middle pickup with no tone control, but now, I do have tone control on the bridge and that's a lot more useful.

I also bought an SX Furrian, their Tele looking guitar. I got the alder body with a maple neck, stuck a black pickguard on it and used 3 compensated brass saddles I had. With my Bill Lawrence pickups installed, instant 52 Tele.

I feel like I want to buy more and more guitars from Rondo before they come to their senses.

I've toyed with getting one of the Furrians, too. Got any pics?
It's one year later and I continue to be amazed how much I like this Hawk.

Since buying it, I've also gotten a Furrian, (Telecaster), in alder, on which I put a black pickguard, so I have my 52 Tele look going there. With some Bill Lawrence Keystone pickups in it, it's turned into a great guitar. I've had a bunch of people say they want to buy it from me and I keep pushing to build their own for all of the $180 it cvost, OEM plus pickups.

I also bought one of their 335 looking guitars. I'm really happy with it too, but I wish I'd gotten some other color other than the gold top. It's a different gold color than it looked like on the web and I've grown tired of the look of it.

Functionally though, it works great and the woodwork is really good. I stuck some GFS Dream 180 pickups in it that I had laying around and it now has a somewhat low output, super smooth sounding vibe. I can't play all those fancy jazz chords that look like algebra problems, but for strumming background, it works really well.

I'm cutting down on electrics and selling off my better ones because I'm completely satisfied with these less expensive guitars I have like the 3 from Rondo or a Noah James 335 thing I found on the web. I have a Squier 51 arriving tomorrow and honestly, I don't think I want to anything beyond what I can do with these cheapies!

Yes, I picked up a (lefty) Hawk a couple weeks ago - ash body, clear finish, for $99 (less than it was a year ago when I posted that link). It's a two piece body (not three as advertised in their copy), and the grain is nicer than some Fender's I've seen.

One thing to note - these are about 1/8" thinner than a true Fender, and a Fender spec neck won't drop in - the neck pocket is wider (so the neck is loose in there) and the holes are in different places.

But I dropped in a set of DiMarzio pickups (Fast Track 1 [b], Cruiser [m], Cruiser Bridge [n]) with a black guard and it's working out well. I may change the tuners eventually, but they're not bad - even with moderate whammy use (and I haven't put any graphite or anything on the nut yet).

I may take a few pics and get them posted soon - looks good: a bare bones ash strat with black guard, pup covers and knobs - pure, down to earth r 'n' r!

I had an SX SST strat copy way back when .I was surprised just how good it was .The pickups were very sweet .I changed them out for a set of Keystones and although they sounded good I preferred the SX ones and put them back .
