Title says it all, I have 2 Corona made guitars, and i wouldn't trade for anything - an X-180 archtop, and a JF30-12.
I know there were some being blown out due to finish problems, but c'mon - GADs are being listed (and apparently getting) higher prices than Corona Guilds.
I haven't seen enough Tacomas to really compare -
there are some out there, aren't there?

Corona Guilds are fantastic guitars.

I've owned Guilds made everywhere exept the latest from New Hartford, CT. All were terrific instruments.

Go by your ear, not the hype.

6

I had a Corona-made Guild D-40. BEAUTIFUL instrument. Extremely well-made. I loved everything about the guitar EXCEPT that I couldn't get any volume out of it. Stole a GAD 50E from an E-Bayer. Near mint for $415 shipped (with electronics they were going for $825 new at the time). I much preferred it soundwise (but definitely not appearance-wise). Traded the D-40 for an amp.

For a while I thought it was a mahogany vs. rosewood situation. But hindsight is 20/20. Knowing what I know now I believe it may have been a setup issue. The previous owner had set it up for playability so the action was very low. I think a higher action may have benefitted this guitar. Not sure and too late to find out unfortunately. :-(
