Can any one recomend a good replacement for this unit? My $X12 cab has suffered dog pee damage, and peavey no longer makes this driver. Should I get a JSX, or is there something from another maker that is affordable and close?

The Sheffield 1290 is a knockoff of a Celestion 85. The Celestion was a G12K-85 and is no longer made, but was upgraded to a G12K-100. The 85 has gotten generally good reviews and was basically (from the info I found) a 75 with a larger magnet. It was used in many amps as OEM, like in Ampeg combos, going back 20 years.

The Sheffield is a 75 watt speaker with a 96.9dB efficiency rating.

The G12T-75 might be a good replacement.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Lawton, Oklahoma. Does anyone make recone kits for Sheffields. ans is there a good (read - relatively inexpensive...) online or local sour ce for the Celetisns, prefereably a Fender Forum sponsor?

Here's a 1200. They were used in 5150 amps and were designed to sound like a well worn Greenback. It should work well.

Thanks for the info - I did not know that 1200's would work. Peavey has a new one - a "JSX" with similar specs to the 1290, for only a little more than the price this guy is asking. Unfortunately, my A/C died at the house, and my home warranty is denying coverage, so I'm now on the hook for 4 grand that I wasn't last week. It may be a while before I fix the cabinet.

I am finally getting around to repairing the cab. Just won a Triple XXX speaker on ebay.

When searching for a new speaker for my blackface 67 Deluxe Reverb, I tried a new C12n (way to bright and strident with distortion...which Joe Naylor told me how to fix later.)

I tried a Celestion V30 and it was muted and just sucked the Fender out of the amp.

I got hold of a Tripple XXX speaker for $15. (It came loose at the edge of the surround...easily reglued.)

It sounded like a V30 with clear, Fender like high end. Perfect.

An e-mail to Peavey confirmed that was exactly what they were going for.

A great speaker.

The Texas Heat is my go-to all around speaker. I actually stuck one in a Vypyr 75 combo with very good results.

Turns out a second speaker is damaged. I have a Celestion Seventy 80 on the way from Sweetwater. "Refurbished" - whatever that means. $29.99 with free shipping. Can't kick about the price. Only running it at low volume until it gets here but it actually sound s a little better to me with the Triple X in it.
